Museum of Philippine Social History's Bettina Pangilinan Arriola's Speech at the Exhibit Opening of Textile and Weaving

Good morning to everyone! First of I would like to acknowledge the presence of the chief of our division, DepEd
Ma'am Diosalyn Azarcon OIC-EPS, English DepEd, RO III.

Second i would like to also acknolwedge the painstaking time and effort of the ojts of mcc in accomplishing this exhibit. They are all talented in many ways. They will go a long way with their creativity, perseverance and diligence. To everyone welcome to the opening of 2 exhibits in the museum, kagandahang asal sa loob at labas ng bahay and the kasanayan ng kababaihan noon at ngayon. Through this exhibit you will experience interactivity through the games, installation art expressing education of today and basic mechanism of the tools women used before as their source of livelihood. It was all unintended to have both this events in one and coincidentally while we were preparing for this exhibit, i have been reading articles coming out on the efforts of DepEd focusing more on gmc as a separate subject to be taught to students and weaving as part of home economics.

Clearly we have noticed that todays generation is very different from the previous generation that we have to adapt to these changes. But definitely some must remain and be kept in the scene. All of these social upbringings, practice of good moral conduct and continuance of family traditions starts with the family and the community one is living in. These are intangible heritage that we ought to practice and is timelessly relevant. Parents, school and institutions such as museum must wrk hand in hand to rear the generation and instill in them values which will in turn benefit the society and the environment we are living in. Everything is all interconnected. Every action we take affects the other as they usually call it as the Domino effect. We must be watchful of our action to the people around us and our surroundings.
We always say gone are the days, noon ganito noon ganyan, but cant we just make our past still part of our present? If we see something that must remain we must make an effort to save it and open the minds of the people on the main reason why it is important just as how our elders have imposed it to us. What could have been the cause of the loss of our customs and traditions? is it because of having more knowledge that makes us more resistant at some point? What legacy do you want to live to the next coming generation? What memories will be embeded in our minds that will be shared in the future? Well with that I live you with all the thoughts to consider and think of ways on how we can better ourself and our society.
